Douglas Nelson, DDS, graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1979. He was awarded membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor fraternity. Prior to dental school, Dr. Nelson served three years in the U.S. Army’s Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. After graduation, he served two years as a commissioned officer with the National Health Service Corps. Dr. Nelson moved to Appleton, Wisconsin in 1981.

“It has always been important to me to be ahead of the leading edge of dentistry in both training and technology,” says Dr. Nelson. To pursue that goal, he attends more than 100 hours of continuing education each year. He has been using Cerec technology since 1998, is experienced in conscious sedation, certified to use soft tissue lasers, and owns one of a few dental CAT Scans in the nation. Dr. Nelson also regularly attends extensive neuromuscular and aesthetic programs at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.

In addition to general dentistry, Dr. Nelson treats dental-related headaches, TMJ pain and dysfunction, and head and neck pains using neuromuscular principles. His treatment philosophy is a non-surgical, conservative approach that can end years of discomfort.

Dentists throughout northeast Wisconsin recognize his skill and progressive care. In May 2006, WFRV Television surveyed dentists in northeast Wisconsin to find who they would go to for care, and Dr. Nelson ranked in the top 10 for general care and cosmetic dentistry.
